A Holiday Message from Ascentria

December 20, 2018 Ascentria Care Alliance
Dear Ascentria Community,

Tis the season to be merry, hopeful and thankful!

At Ascentria, we are so thankful for your kindness. Because of you and other generous partners, donors and volunteers, we helped thousands of people from all across New England this year reach beyond life’s challenges and thrive.

Thanks to you, our 2018 #GivingTuesday campaign was a great success, raising more than $142,000. Those funds help support vital programs like In-Home Care, Good News Garage, Immigration Legal Assistance, Mental Health and Disability Services, Teen Parenting, Foster Care, Services for New Americans and Unaccompanied Refugee Minors.

Here are just a few examples of how, together, we have assisted our neighbors:

Just last month, Good News Garage (GNG) awarded its 5,000th vehicle to a family in Vermont. And GNG launched a pilot program in Worcester, MA – “Ready To Go” – which uses donated vans to take low-income individuals to essential activities like work, day care and education, at no cost to riders.

For the fifth year, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts partnered with Ascentria for their Service Day. One hundred volunteers helped prepare gift baskets filled with fresh fruits, healthy snacks and soup ingredients. Among the grateful recipients were our foster children and their families, refugees and immigrants, teen mothers and their children, adults with disabilities and seniors in our residential programs.

“Second Acts for Strong Communities” is a new Ascentria initiative. Volunteers age 50+ help mentor teen mothers at our teen parenting programs in Brockton and Worcester, MA. The “Second Acts” mentors provide the wisdom of experience to young moms, helping empower them to become independent and successful.

Your involvement, support, and expertise make possible so many opportunities for those we serve. And your friendship inspires us. As you can imagine, we face many challenges in helping people improve their health, transportation, education, and job skills… so that they can move forward to realize new possibilities. Knowing that you are by our side gives us hope and strength. It helps us achieve the goal that unites us: changing lives for the better.

The great philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, “A friend may well be reckoned the masterpiece of Nature.”

Thank you for being a true friend to Ascentria and to those we serve.

On behalf of the entire Ascentria team, we wish you and yours the merriest Christmas and a new year filled with promise.

Gratefully yours,

Angela Bovill
Ascentria President and CEO

Ascentria Board Chair
