– Ascentria Care Alliance, one of the largest human service nonprofits in New England, announced that its former board chair, Jeff Kinney, was recently hired as chief of staff for Angela Bovill, president and CEO, and chief of external relations.
For the last eight years, Kinney served as regional vice president at Wells Fargo Bank, in Boston and prior to that was a senior vice president at Wachovia Bank. He has an MBA in Finance from DePaul University, and a BA in Economics and Political Science from Wittenberg University.
Kinney was chair of Ascentria’s governing board during a time of great transition, including a change in identity from Lutheran Social Services of New England to its new name, Ascentria Care Alliance. Kinney was both board chair and a leading volunteer – he helped promote adoption services, Services for New Americans, and legal services for the victims of human trafficking. And as a prominent banker he actively encouraged corporate executives to work with the nonprofit’s programs in the communities their businesses served. After his term as board chair – succeeded by William Mayo – Kinney continued as a board member.
Angela Bovill, president and CEO of Ascentria, said the addition of Kinney to the executive team was “a great complement to an already strong leadership team. It means we can grow and succeed in new, important ways.” She said that as her chief of staff, Kinney would help manage “strategic planning, board development, and act as a CEO proxy on key relationships, external events and special projects.” As chief of external relations, Kinney will help develop organizational and messaging strategies in marketing, public relations, advancement and advocacy. Bovill praised Kinney’s expertise: “Jeff is exceptional as a strategist, relationship-builder, and communicator, and he has an impressive record in team building.”
“Taking on this dual role is a humbling challenge,” said Kinney, “but the spirit of innovation is so strong in the Ascentria family, I’m very encouraged and optimistic. It’s a great opportunity to help create opportunities for the people we serve – whether it’s in employment, training, education, housing, transportation, adoption, language or legal services. Angela and I genuinely believe that Ascentria’s core values -- courage, compassion and integrity – will ensure our success.
“We have an ambitious vision -- to help break the cycle of poverty for individuals and families, and thus help transform neighborhoods and strengthen communities. Ascentria provides excellent, innovative services through its many programs across New England, with more than 1,600 talented employees. Yet we aspire to do much more, and I’m confident we will.”
