"QUINCY – Thousands of children will be entering the new school year with new pencils and notebooks, thanks to volunteers at Quincy’s Blue Cross Blue Shield location.
The volunteer work was part of the seventh annual Blue Cross Blue Shield Service Day.
The company-wide event sends out more than 3,200 Blue Cross Blue Shield employees to work on 55 service projects at local nonprofit organizations across Massachusetts while the company shuts down for the day. In all, Blue Cross employees donated 23,000 volunteer hours. In addition to the helping hands, each Service Day nonprofit partner also received a $5,000 grant for materials to assist in their efforts.
Staff members also put together healthy fruit baskets for Ascentria Care Alliance in another part of the Quincy headquarters."
