It’s easy to make the mistake of taking our blessings for granted. But when Rita thinks about her success, she feels tremendous gratitude to many people: “I want to say a big thank-you to everyone…I really appreciate you!” Rita is a teenage mother living with her two-year-old son at Ascentria’s Ruth House for teen parents in Brockton, Massachusetts. “The staff helped me accomplish my goals of graduating high school, getting my driver’s license and Certified Nursing Assistant license, and becoming a better parent.”
Ascentria’s Teen Parenting Program serves low-income, single, teenage mothers and their small children who might otherwise be homeless, living in unsafe situations or substandard housing. Teen parents find support, counseling, training, advocacy and transitional housing within two Ascentria programs in Massachusetts. The Florence House in Worcester and the Ruth House in Brockton provide housing in safe, therapeutic residential environments that build individual strengths and help young families move toward self-sufficiency.
